Carol Hart, born in Shreveport, LA., developed a love for art at a very young age. She earned a BA in Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. After a year of teaching and working on an advanced degree, she and husband Bill became part of the “back to the land” movement living in Madison County. It was this experience where she developed her love of nature as seen in her Tree Series. but it was her love for people, especially those disenfranchised that led her to teaching children with disabilities and then on to founding Life Styles, a non-profit organization based on the belief that when all are included, all of our lives are enriched. Through Life Styles, Carol was able to incorporate her love for art be establishing The Blair Art Center, giving individuals with disabilities the opportunity to express themselves creatively. Serving as director of Life Styles and raising her two sons along with Bill, became the primary focus for her creativity. Since retiring in 2012, Carol has reconnected with her passion for painting. She enjoys experimenting with a variety of subjects, mediums, and materials, but states, “I am an acrylic figurative painter at heart, often with a bit of collage and drawing thrown in”. Placing the figures in abstracted everyday settings, she explores the relationship of color and shapes to draw the viewer in. In her Circus Series, the combines those elements along with her long time fascination with circus life.
